On Kontrabant’s fifth album, Good Genes intertwine in all their noble pedigree. With a colourful selection of songs and vibrant interpretations, Kontrabant, like a distant star of constancy from a neighbouring galaxy, continues with its contraband operation.

In the musical cosmos, a mission is often impossible that unites various cultures and musical practices into an original and recognisable musical form, which enthuses and often shocks in the same breath.

The Kontrabant guys seek out the Good Genes in local folk tunes, as well as in other cultural amplitudes of the musical cosmos.

The Good Gene of rhythm brings that elementality in experiencing the Kontrabantian music, which does not leave us in one place, but takes us far beyond, where all that is our own, all that we already got with our mothers' milk, interlaces with a totally new experience.

The Good Gene of words has made sure that we won’t understand all the texts, yet it is often precisely the vibrations of unknown words that bring elation and reveal new dimensions.

The Good Gene of melody takes us across the worlds of various melodies and musical traditions of near and distant lands, where the energies of the Klezmer and Roma feel interweave, Pannonian melancholy, Brazilian temperament, Finnish vivaciousness, Macedonian rhythms, Istrian directness and Slovenian wittiness…
